Fall In Love With These 4 Productivity Tips
Productivity isn’t always about adding more, sometimes, it can be about doing less. If we imagine it as a scale from 1 to 10 in effort, and 1-10 in results, the ideal outcome would be 1 effort for 10 results.
So why do most of us do the opposite?
There is an argument that could be made for volume, and when it comes to learning, doing more and more creates more opportunities for feedback. However, when it comes to moving the needle forward, that’s where productivity steps in. That’s where it’s more about working smart.
Here are the 4 productivity tips to fall in love with:
1. Love the routine of it all
As I write this edition of our newsletter, I’m sitting in my office, with an orange light glowing behind the latest rolex catalog. A candle of cedar and lavender burns next to me, and I have a bronze mug filled with ice and sparkling water. Mountains by Hans Zimmer is playing on my speaker.
Why am I telling you this? Because all of that makes the work more enjoyable, something I love. And when you love the work that you need to do, it makes it so much easier to get it done.
2. The Feynman Technique
The Feynman technique is a classic technique that has been proven to be one of the most effective ways of learning something.
The main idea is to take something that is difficult to understand, and try to clarify it in your mind as if you were speaking to a five year old, because in doing so, you are compelled to simplify the ideas in your mind, and use clear and concise language.
The simpler language and explanation you need to describe an idea, the more you understand it, and the more we understand something, the better we can use it.
3. Clarity Building
What goal do you have today? What are you working towards?
We should have immediate answers to these questions, and if we don’t, we aren’t operating out of a place of clarity. See in order to make progress, we need metrics to measure that progress, and we also need a start and end point.
Your starting point is right here, and your end point is where you want to be, and in between is the road to getting from where you are, to where you wish to be. The way I like to do it is by setting a one day, one week, one month, and one year goal.
I also have 4 year visions in each area of fulfillment of my life, so family, faith, finances, and fitness.
4. Law Of Choices
You are someone who things happen to, or someone who makes things happen, and when you decide which one you would rather be, that becomes your source of power. Every opportunity, every moment, puts us at a crossroad, and we always have a choice. Not choosing anything is still a choice. So the question is, what kind of choices can you make that will advance you to the future you want?
