Unlock The Next Version Of Yourself
To start, the question is what am I optimizing for. Make no mistake, to be someone I’ve never been, I have to be willing and able to do what I have never done.
That requires uncertainty, struggle, and sacrifice, it requires the will to act. But that’s the beauty, isn’t it? Nietzsche once said, “Chaos gives birth to dancing stars”. I just love that line.
In the midst of chaos, that’s where find order. Opposites, but yet they are together for we cannot have order without chaos, and no chaos without order.
But order doesn’t have to relinquish our control, for we can have order over our freedom, our time, and our actions. The ability to do what we want when we want stems from order, not chaos
Here are the four actionable things to unlock the next version of yourself
1. Stop living in what was, and step into what is
Life is looking forward, or looking back, and some of us are still so caught up in what used to be, what we used to have, but that’s gone, and it’s never coming back. So the question to ask, is what do I do now, who am I in the face of everything that’s happened?
Seize control of this moment, and you have a fighting chance to seize control of your life.
2. Solve today’s problems, and stop worrying about tomorrow's problems
So many of us solve problems in anticipation, which by nature, isn’t a bad thing. The issue is when we do so, as a way of avoiding the thing that needs to get done right now.
If we just started by doing the one thing we don’t want to do, right now, imagine how much farther we could progress.
3. Have both strategy and tactics
Tactics without a strategy have no aim, and a strategy without tactics doesn’t get implemented. You need the long term horizon and focus, dialing in what is important to you, but you need to build a roadmap to get there, then focus on completing that roadmap.
4. Commit to a life philosophy bigger than yourself
We’re human, and by nature, flawed. We will make mistakes, do the wrong thing, and not always be disciplined in our pursuits. But when you commit to a philosophy bigger than yourself, a lens in which you can view the world, you enter a shield of culture that protects you from failing into a sea of chaos. You now have a way in which you deal with the world and all of its adversity.
